First of all, Happy Thanksgiving. Appreciate all things, big and small. True, it could always be better, but never forget that it could be worse. Much, much worse.
You sitting in an abode with heat, power, and running water? Life is good. You got a little food somewhere in the house, enough to fill your belly? Your family and friends alive and well? Does your health still allow you to get out of bed in the morning and put one foot in front of the other? Then it’s a good day. Consider it such.
Trump and the Trumpanzees….
I don’t know if they’ll win the day, but I know they’ll lose the war, eventually. Nothing built on that stack of dishonesty and ineptitude can last for long. It’s doomed to implode at some point. The only problem is, it can’t come soon enough, although a lot of innocent people will probably get hurt in the process.
Anyway…the Trump phenomenon, his cult of personality, seems to have taken on a life of its own and about all we can do is wait for the storm to pass. At this point in time, there is absolutely nothing that anyone can say or do to convince a Trump supporter that their leader is a dangerous, dishonest, and incompetent dictator wannabe.
A Trumpanzee will never change his mind about Trump until, at some point, they are personally impacted by Trump’s duplicity and avarice. A lot of dumb-ass farmers and small business folks–former staunch conservative Republicans–are suddenly realizing how dangerous Trump is now that they’re being subjected to the president’s tariff policies. There was a time in my life when I might have felt sorry for them, but now I have to laugh. Some of them might expect people like me to welcome them back into the fold of sanity with open arms. Think again, shithead.
If left unchecked, every American who isn’t a rich man will eventually be negatively impacted by Trump’s dystopian rule. It’s only a matter of time.
But I am seeing indications that the tide is turning, however slowly.
In an unprecedented move, CNN recently had an hour-long television special that listed Trump’s lies and tried to analyze his motivation for doing so. It was a good step in the right direction. That the president lies constantly is not even up for debate: it’s a given. It’s documented. Trump is known to lie about things even when there is no apparent reason to do so.
What’s needed next is a real-time debunking of the man’s lies every single time his fat orange face is speaking to a television camera. Whether or not CNN, or MSNBC does it…or even better if one of the mainstream networks like ABC or CBS does it…remains to be seen. But they should, and they should start right now.
I think that those news networks have come to realize that if they don’t do it now, the time may come when they are forbidden from doing it at all, by edict.
Don’t laugh. Anybody who knows anything about dictatorial power–which is exactly what Trump is striving to create–knows that subjugation of the “free press” is probably among the top ten items on every despots to-do list.
So sit back, stay out of the way, and enjoy the show, because this is history in the making. Don’t expose yourself to harm just yet, unless you know you can make a difference. For now, the leviathans are fighting it out.
As the Koreans said long ago, when their country was the ad hoc battle ground for wars between China and Japan: “When whales fight, only the shrimp get hurt.”
